Butterfly Tree

Butterfly Tree (orchid) is indigenous in Asia and is quite colorful. This painting is done on a special Japanese gold treated paper, requiring a combination of watercolor pigment and gaouche. The style of painting is Chinese Gong Bi (also known as fine line). The artist first draws an outline of the subject matter, then fill with pigment with multiple brush work in order to achieve color intensity. Hence, Gong Bi in Chinese means laborous brush!
