This composition is based on a location in Mumbai called Ban Ganga. It is a stepped well built in the 1127 AD, by Lakshman Prabhu, a minister in the court of Silhara dynasty kings of Thane. It was rebuilt in 1715 AD, out of a donation for the Walkeshwar Temple by Rama Kamath.
The sheer period from where it belongs and its existence near a sea face for 900 years renders this place fragile. To me balancing the man made structure with nature is careful act of balancing it with its context. This stepped wells' reflection the watertank adds to the lightness of the structure and renders it fragile.
The composition is a celebration of its existence and the idea was to bring joy on to the canvas through colors. Its an impressionist piece of work by me of this place
The well also closely resembles the ghats of Varanasi and is still used by people of mumbai for various religious rites. The title is inspired by the closed wall construction of the tank.
