Afternoon Gathering

My "WOMEN IN WHITE" series was created to prove that the "color” white is anything BUT white. Using white dresses and white geese, to explore the depth that "white" can be used. "White" can be all colors of the rainbow! As with all my painting, each time is one more “lesson” I hope to learn and share.

This 36x48 oil on linen, incorporated both "plein air" & "studio" painting, which is seldom, if ever done. The entire landscape was captured "en plein air", on my own property, with my van as my easel! Leaving areas for the figures, which were created in the studio, AFTER the landscape was painted. I use only my own personal photo reference for the models and geese, making sure the light source is the same through out!


As with all my paintings, be they plein air or figurative or floral, my goals are the same: strong composition, brush work which is exciting yet lends to the simplicity of the surface, light that creates an emotional statement, and that together they create the “impression” of what I felt I wanted to share with the world.
